Darius Knight, who started his tournament career in the London Junior Table Tennis Scheme Rating Tournaments at the age of 7, completed a successful five days in Funchal, Madeira by winning the men's singles title beating compatriot Paul Drinkhall in the final of the Madeira Open.
It was to some extent revenge for Darius. In the boys' singles final of the ITTF World Junior Circuit event in Funchal three days earlier, Darius had lost in four straight games to Drinkhall.
In the final of the men's singles event at the Madeira Open he recovered from a two games to nil deficit to clinch victory 8-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 13-11, 11-9.
The decision to compete in the Madeira Open was one he nearly didn't make.
At the El Salvador Junior Open in August his view was that he would play in the ITTF World Junior Circuit event and then return home to England. He decided to stay and the decision proved fruitful.
In all he won three titles the men's team event with Paul Drinkhall, the boys' singles and the men's singles, in both finals he overcame Drinkhall.
